SENATE BILL 1371
State Affairs (House)
Primary elections, presidential
ELECTIONS – Amends and adds to existing law to revise provisions regarding presidential primaries, primary election dates, and candidate filing deadlines.
RS31374 / S1371
The intent of this legislation is to provide consistency, fiscal responsibility, and relevance in our election process. It seeks to amend several sections of Idaho election code to hold all primary elections, including the presidential primary, on the third Tuesday in April.
It is estimated that by combining elections, there will be savings for local jurisdictions. The savings will be the approximately $2.7 million that it costs the State of Idaho every 4 years when a presidential primary election is held on a different date than down ticket races.
